The functions of pre-production
--> Organisation and time management
These avoid you going over budget and therefore loosing money. They also allow you to be able to stay on schedule saving money by not having to hire out the venue for more time than needed when recording your Moving image or Audio piece. Organisation and time management allows you to avoid legal issues as you are prepared and won't get sued by breaking the rules. Having good organisation and time also allows your production to run smoothly as everyone will know what they are doing and therefore be able to deliver the final edit on time. For Example in Radio production organisation and time management are essential as they need to keep the public updated regularly, one of these is the traffic updates they need to have good organisation and time management to fit these in.

--> Finance
There are two aspects to this, first the potential sources of finance (such as advertising, sponsorship, subscription fees, cover price, sales and retail prices). The second, the expenditure( covering such elements as equipment, materials, transport costs, crew, personnel, facility hire, clearances and legal costs). This is important because the amount of money you have for your film will dictate the scale of your production and what is possible.

--> Logistics
Any creative media production needs facilities to be able to produce, the facilities they need are production equipment and camera equipment. `They will also need to account for the transport costs of all of their crew to film in other places.

--> Storyboards and scripts
Storyboards and scripts are used to plan their production and this benefits them as this will not lead top them wasting time and therefore money as the venue expensive and storyboards are also used for creative visualisation. You have to pay the rights for a script so it cant be copy righted this will then be drafted multiple times this then enables cast and crew to rehearse. A script is the foundation for everything that happens on set.
--> Deadlines
Deadlines are vital part of making a film as you have to make sure you meet deadlines over wise this could lead to over spending and could ruin the budget. If you do not meet a deadline then this could mean you will be getting fired due to the expense it costs to not meet a deadline E.g might have to film a extra day witch is a big cost to the production as you have to hire all the equipment for an extra day.
